Big Sky Fire Department serves a fire district of over 55 square miles in both Gallatin and Madison Counties and responds to out-of-district emergency incidents in the 200 square miles of state & national forests and national wilderness areas surrounding Big Sky, as well as portions of Yellowstone National Park itself. The department charges fees for services provided outside of district boundaries and also has contracts to provide out-of-district services as well.
As a full service life safety agency, we provide Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Services, Structural & Wildland Fire Suppression, Hazardous Materials Incident Response and Water & Technical Rescue Services. In addition, BSFD performs building code inspections, development plan review, First Aid & CPR education, fire safety education and participates fire prevention efforts that include providing defensible space education for properties in our wildland urban interface environment.
An energetic organization of career and volunteer firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians working from two stations and responding to over 500 emergency incidents annually, they take great pride in their work and our excellent customer service evaluations as measured by post-incident client surveys.
